Beijing, China, August 18 2026 – Two Directors of the The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) are currently participating in a two-week Seminar on Work Safety and Emergency Management Capacity Building for English Speaking African Countries, being held in Beijing, China. The Seminar commenced today, August 18th, and will end on the 30th of August 2026.
The Agency is represented by Mohamed L. Bah, Director of Communications, and Sinneh Mansaray, Director of Relief and Response. They are among disaster management officials from various African countries attending the high level training, which is hosted by China’s Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Emergency Management.
The seminar focuses on industrial safety protocols, early warning systems, risk assessment, and post disaster coordination. It also includes technical field visits to Chinese emergency response hubs and industrial safety demonstration zones.
At the opening ceremony, NDMA’s Director of Communications, Mohamed L. Bah was nominated to deliver a speech on behalf of all participants.
In his statement, he said: “this training comes at a crucial time for the continent at large. As we face increasing threats from floods, mudslides, and industrial accidents, the practical strategies and expertise gained here will directly strengthen our national mitigation and response systems,” Bah stated.
He further emphasized: “We are not here merely as participants, we are here as partners. The knowledge and partnerships we build in China will be translated into concrete actions that protect lives and livelihoods when we return home.”
The participation of the Agency’s two Directors in this seminar highlights its commitment to continuous learning, international cooperation, and the adoption of global best practices in disaster management.
The training will also enhance NDMA’s capacity in early warning communication, emergency coordination, and community based disaster risk reduction.
The seminar also reflects a promising partnership between Sierra Leone and China in the areas of emergency management and capacity building, under the broader framework of South South cooperation.
Commenting on the opportunity, the Director General of the NDMA, John Vandy Rogers, expressed his profound gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone and the Chinese government for providing such an opportunity to the NDMA, stating:
“This training is a strategic investment in our Agency’s human capital. The exposure our Directors are gaining in China will directly benefit our operations, particularly in enhancing our early warning communication and relief coordination. I am confident that upon their return, we will see tangible improvements in how we prepare for and respond to emergencies across the country.”
